Harụspex
 
[lateinisch »Eingeweideschauer«] der, -/-e und ...spizes, etruskischer Zeichendeuter, der als Berater auch im alten Rom im öffentlichen und privaten Leben zugezogen wurde. Auf der Grundlage der etruskischen Wahrsagekunst weissagte der Haruspex aus Wunderzeichen, aus dem Blitz und besonders aus den Eingeweiden der Opfertiere. Die Leberschau hielt sich noch bis ins 4. Jahrhundert n. Chr. In Etrurien waren die Haruspizes ein angesehener Stand, in Rom wurden sie häufig auch als Schwindler betrachtet; doch wurde der Stand der Haruspizes durch Kaiser Claudius 47 n. Chr. neu belebt.
